Actually, I already have a "tag" plugin, it just doesn't use the Alert system. I'll link it below, but I'm just about to submit several updates so it may go blank for a while. It was actually suggested that I integrate it with the alert system, how hard is this to do?

See: http://mods.mybb.com/view/user-tagging

Not hard actually.

Just follow this Integration Wiki Smile

MentionMe 1.5 has been pushed to the mod site. It is available at GitHub and is a stable working version.

Changes
  • Surrounding punctuation no longer affects mentions.

    Previously

    @Wildcard, you are slow

    wouldn't work correctly. It has been fixed.
  • Advanced Matching

    When a username contains spaces, you must enclose it in quotes when you @"mention" the user. This feature enables advanced matching so that

    @user name with spaces

    works if it is spelled correctly and that user exists.

    This feature is turned off by default as it can be more intense on server resources.
  • Settinggroup and setting added for above feature.
  • Installation routines reworked thanks to a suggestion from Euan
  • Prevented multiple alerts for duplicate mentions in the same post. Blush
  • Reworked user name caching a bit to ensure no queries are wasted

There are no life-or-death updates here, but I personally enjoy being able to use punctuation near mentions so I would recommend upgrading.

  1. Uninstall in ACP
  2. Overwrite the previous files
  3. Install & Activate in ACP
  4. Enjoy Smile

Updated and working great. I noticed some members using punctuation without the double quotes and it wouldn't link the username. This has it working perfectly.

Thanks!

You're welcome. I am sorry I missed that the first time.

One question: was it intentional not to alert someone after a post is edited? Example: I posted something roughly at the same time as someone else, so I didn't see their reply until after I posted mine. I edited my post (as to not double post) and Mentioned them in it. Doing this does not send them an alert - only new posts will do so.

It wasn't something intentional, but I did notice that. I have a couple of other improvements to make, perhaps I will do another small update version soon.

Your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks you so much. Smile

MentionMe 1.5.1 is released.

Changes:
  • Adding a mention to existing posts now create alerts (quick edit or full edit)
  • If an alert has been previously created for that post, the alert is not created
  • Fixed a bug where alerts weren't created because of punctuation. Updated mention routines to fix that.
  • Fixed bug in which mentions were still parsed inside of [code] tags

Quite a few good updates, I would recommend updating.

A full reinstall isn't required, just overwrite the existing files

I have pushed a minor update to the mods site and it is currently awaiting validation.

The project at GitHub has been updated and is available for download:
