Why 2.0 though? Why not just 1.4.8.1 or something?

Because 2.0 is a complete rewrite and a mega change to everything, 1.4.8.1 would indicate a very minor change to 1.4.8... :| It's common sense.

But 1.4.8 is already perfect as it is... Except for plugins and crappy themes...

There will be 1.6 . But, you can't stop development as for mybb to continue to be the best it has to stay ahead of the rest.

The next main feature release will be 1.6, then 1.6.1, 1.6.2, 1.6.3 etc etc will be bug/security fixes, then 2.0 will be the rewrite. This is how, like, all software works....
