"woah woah I don't think it should take-"

I'll be honest. If you keep up the excuses, volunteer or not MyBB will die. I understand this isn't anyone's full time gig, but the amount of time you're requiring to make these changes, regardless of the complexity, will kill the project.

Point me to one instance of this happening. I’ll wait.

Posts #54 & 55 in this thread. Tactrus was being sarcastic, but his point is well understood.
6 months is a little too long to wait for a responsive platform. Can it be done in 3 months? Why not raise money like Labrocca suggested:

What if we took up a collection and offered a reward for a 60 day release?  Would that get the team motivated?  I have a feeling we'd raise thousands of dollars for that. I'd personally go $x,xxx to make it happen by the team. I'm already working with someone making a fantastic design for 1.8x.

That would be a great idea, but MyBB is volunteer work and not a job to support the developer's life. We should appreciate their own time to make the software safe from security risks and bugs that could cause the software to become useless. Those are minor things they need to work on all the time. Why would they focus on something other users that create responsive themes for free or paid. There are many responsive themes that are decent prices $15 - $20. However, they could quit their jobs or other commitments to make a responsive theme where sources for that is accessible. A project donation fund would be a great idea for a theme creator in a community for a custom responsive theme for MyBB1.9+ would be a fantastic idea. I would love for a free responsive theme by default, but people always want a 3rd party theme or a custom theme that other users make anyways. MyBB just want to create core features as a foundation. The community helps a lot by extending those features and enhance what MyBB can do. Responsive is highly demanded and will hurt forums that are mobile unfriendly. Those are my thoughts.

It’s better to overestimate and reach the target than underestimate and not. It may not take 6 months, but I estimate 6 months at the most.

I’m finished work for Christmas break now and as such have a couple of days free. A chunk of this time is going to be spent implementing Twig and starting the new theme.
History have shown us that progress based on a socialistic-minded approach has its 15 minutes of glory and then it's stagnation and downfall until it evaporates. They build an impenetrable elite and they all fanatically believe they were always right and that was everyone else's fault or just bad luck. Or something else, something that others couldn't understand. Never their own fault.

As everything dies out, they replace their key-figures with kindred successors who maintain the same mindset and narrative as the system slowly dies out while they adamantly refuse to yield and change. Try telling Maduro that Venezuela is in coma.

"Six months from now everything will be better with this new wonderful upgrade (actually they give you what others had for granted since long ago and they make a big deal out of it, to perpetuate the illusion).

Six months for a responsive mobile theme, then one year from now maybe 1.10, then someday 1.12 and at least 10 years since it was announced 2.0 will be released... God! Guys, that's not a roadmap, it's total detachment from reality

MyBB is dying fast. At this rate if a perfectly mobile-adapted 1.8 is not released until the end of February and a fresh modern 2.0 doesn't see the light of the day in 6 months, MyBB will be dead.

Get everyone you need and do it. Get donations (socialism never worked and will never work). You gotta do it, and you gotta do it now.

Seems harsh but feels true to an extent. I don't think MyBB understands how forum admins using MyBB are currently suffering by not having the most important standard met and sitting around just waiting and waiting and waiting. I swear it's a form of torture.

Will the 2.0 theme be able to be used or at least a modified version of it?

Yes, the plan is to re-use as much of the 2.0 theme as possible.
