you need to put the host, username, database name, password, type in quotes otherwise it wont work

for me it works without quotes !?!?! strange

hmm, well i had to use quotes

just look in the readme, included in the chat folder, dont use windows notepad, use a good editor like PSPad instead

Installation
============

1. Upload to the server
--------------------

Upload the chat folder to your server into your MyBB forum directory:
e.g. http://example.org/mybb/chat/


2. Creation of database tables
---------------------------

Execute the provided installation script by visiting the following URL with your browser:
http://example.org/mybb/chat/install.php

Replace "http://example.org/mybb/chat/" with the real URL to your chat directory.


3. Delete the installation script
------------------------------

Delete the file install.php from the chat directory on your server.


Ready! Just place a link to the chat directory on your forum.

how to uninstall this chat program

It keeps giving me:

Error-Report: Database connection failed. Error-Code:

When I try to go to http://forumpromotion.org/chat/install.php

does anyone know if it is possible to display the number of active users outside of the chat room itself? for instance, it would be great to have the number of active users or even a list right next to a link to the chat room.

That's what happened to me last night..
But in the readme it says upload then install.
Nothing about editing the config file..

Maybe it depends on the MySQL-Version?

With MySQL 4 the installation worked fine for me (without editing any file); with MySQL 5 I had to edit the config file like in the posts above. Got the same error (Error-Report: Database connection failed. Error-Code:)
