hehe, tikitiki, I know what you're hinting, but anyways thanks a billion for voicing your opinion.

Chadwick, I think I will work on dynamic description meta tag in early January. I wanted to see more feedback with what people really wanted, but never mind will do it anyways.

Thats not the response I expected at all. lol. I thought you were gonna keep arguing your opinion Toungue
Finally got the time for a new version. Here it is:

Beta 5:
  • Introducing the feature to limit the number of (key) words in the url with several options: (applied if exceeding the keywords limit)
    • Ability to strip out common english words (or as added by you), from the title.
    • Ability to strip out keywords having less length than the one defined.

  • Forum and Thread keywords in the url are now lowercase, while offering the feature that automatically tells the search engines to follow the new link, if they visit the older link.
  • 301 redirects means, search engines will rank your thread pages better, even if followed via the old showthread.php links.
  • Last post links on the index page are no more "showthread.php"
  • Multiple instances of keyword separator, i.e. "-", are now removed on-the-fly so your links look more beautiful than ever. "no-more--something---like-this", previously caused due to use of "no more ^^ something ... like this"
  • Added description meta tag, with description being fetched out from the first post of the topic. (make sure your first post is coolest in each topic)
  • Fixed external MyBB forum thread and forum links being parsed with the current thread description.

ex: (assuming topic title is "foo bar is common"
If you posted, http://community.mybboard.net/showthread.php?tid=16247, it would become:
    http://community.mybboard.net/foo-bar-is...16247.html

That's obviously the wrong behavior and it has been fixed now. Though it wasn't even reported!
Dumb question:

I know on the read more page it says it's compatible with version 1.2. Does that mean just 1.2.0, or does it any 1.2.x version?

Thanks
It means any version of 1.2.x, If I'm not much mistaken.
Oh yeah, it's a bit of unclear. It's supposed to say "1.2.x".
Beta 6 is already here.. Just one day after the Beta 5 release, sorry about that.

Beta 6:
  • Fixed "last post" link at index, neither parsing the correct page number, nor going to the correct page.
  • Page no. "1" for threads, is no more added to the url, to prevent any duplication. (no more foo-t-3-1.html, but always foo-t-3.html)
  • Last page links, on forum display (showthread.php?tid=X&page=last) are now parsed with the correct last page number, preventing any duplication.
  • Now utilizing the MyBB default forum_cache available since 1.2 and saving few extra MySQL queries.
  • Forum links are now parsed correctly, and are created using a very intelligent method. No more stuffing of un-necessary content in the URLs.

The links are now created keeping in account the default datecut, sort by, and order by settings. If the default settings of a forum say so sort by topic 'starter', then on default displaying of the forum, the keyword isn't stuffed in the pages links. However, if the user clicked on the sort by 'lastpost', then this info will be added in the url to remain compatible with forum display sortings.

To upgrade to Beta 6, please read upgrading instructions at:

I am surprised no one ever reported me bugs while they existed.

Btw, Tikitiki, linking back is now only strongly recommended, but no more a requirement. Wink
I have had a problem with MyBB (1.2.2 and 1.2.3) when a user selects threaded mode in UserCP - Options. Clicking on linear mode when viewing posts just returns the same view as threaded mode. Selecting linear mode in UserCP shows no problem.

I checked to see if this forum suffered the same symptoms, which it clearly did not. Anyway, during upgrading MyBB and SEO plug-in (1.0 Beta 6), I notice that the problem disappeared when the SEO plug-in was deactivated, but then reappeared when activated.

Does anybody else using the SEO plug-in see this problem?

Many thanks to Asad_Niazi for this useful mod.
