Does that work, or is it something different?

Now guys, let's think of it like this.

Xenforo has say, 3 things that Mybb doesn't that you want.
Mybb has plugins for 2 things, but no plugins for one of the things. The 2 plugins are on different sites, and they're premium. And, you contacted a developer who said it will cost $40 to get the 3rd plugin you want.
You'll be spending $50-$60 to stay on Mybb, or $140 to move to Xenforo, which (iirc) is still in Beta. :p

Depends on the person.

But to most people, MyBB is free so it's viewed that everything should be free.

For the principle, they might rather go Xenforo or another paid software so they don't have to pay the MyBB Plugin makers.

Plus the fact that it might cost more down the road.
True, though I don't agree with those people. It's up to the author of the plugin, imo. But, spending $30 for some (or 1) plugin, instead of paying $140 and probably still having to fork out a lot more for plugins, is good imo.

No xen has the stable version of 1.0 out
Oh, okay then.

I'm not saying I agree with it either, considering I hold a few subscription memberships and paid exclusive plugins.

But I do understand the principle point of view.
I've been theming xenForo and I have to say that, once you get used to it, xF's theming system passes MyBB's with related templates and CSS grouped together.

Though I don't think it's always the best option. It's better to start out with the simple MyBB and, as your forum grows, work your way up to the bigger paid forums with more features.

Your this thought is actually wrong. MyBB can handle a big forum. Iam running a big board with NO modification of the database or any other plugins for optimization Smile
My comment was made after reading post above mine Smile
Hmm alright!
The first impression of forum software comes from default design and javascript.
Current version of MyBB lacks both compare to XenForo.
But I've read that MyBB 2.0 will use Yii and it's great.
Is there any sources or screenshots of MyBB 2.0?
@guiltar - none of 2.0, but we do have 1.8 coming up: http://blog.mybb.com/2012/04/03/mybb-1-8...roduction/

Imho, XF has gone too far with their use of Javascript.

There's a few screenshots of 2.0 on the blog. but they're just prototypes:

Javascript effects are never a selling point for me. I would much rather have a nice clean design that looks great without them because all they do is slow down my browsing.
