Is there Beta testing for this yet? I will gladly volunteer.

No where close to a beta, alpha, or even a pre-alpha yet. 1.8 is our primary focus.
Will 2.0 continue to use the same licensing as 1.6.x and previous versions, I assume you will continue to develop free open source software, but I've not seen this confirmed and have seen comments that are stating how 2.0 will be ... well here is the comment http://community.mybb.com/thread-133755-...#pid968584

So, Will MyBB continue to be free and opensource?
Definitely. We may change from the LGPL to the MIT license or something, but it will always be free and open source. Because free never tasted so good.

MyBB will always be free and open source. 2.0 will be a new generation of forum software and while keeping some aspects of what MyBB is it will change the way we develop forum software and the way we use it.
The license also depends on the licences of third party software we may use. As said above, it'll definitely be 100% free though.
Thanks for the kind responses, I'm glad to hear you will continue in the same direction.

Thank you for providing the community and myself with such a quality product, I know you guys put alot of time and hard work into MyBB and the continued development, it is really appreciated.

Keep up the great work.

Thanks,
Royel
Let me preface all of this by saying --- I WOULD LOVE TO USE MYBB!

I am a business owner developing a site in Yii. The site will include a forum component. I have been looking for months at MyBB hoping to see some significant movement in the development of a 2.0 product.

But given MyBB has a huge community of people ready to commit time to the project...why so much time?

Let's say to re-write is 2500 coding hours. If you can break that up into ten extensions (and assign a pm to it)...and ten further 'sub-extensions'...that's only 25 hours per sub extension. There are tons of people here willing to do that or sponsor it. I'm one of them.

If that's not feasible...let's get a pool going and sponsor the development...and pay people to do it. Who's not going to donate $100 if you reach out personally --- or $10 if you put up a banner wikipedia style?

You guys have the biggest, most passionate, dedicated community. Even if you don't put out a full-functioning yii product --- you don't need to. Take the Yii forum module in existence and get out a Beta with the MyBB stamp on it (and file structure, etc.) --- so that guys like me can incorporate it NOW! I don't need to get to the summit --- but I do need a basecamp.

Thoughts?
To be honest, we haven't even decided 100% on Yii being our framework for 2.0 anyway. We've been waiting on Yii's new release (1.2 IIRC?) to see what it brings to the table.
When it comes to start writing MyBB 2.0 we will choose what we feel is the right framework for what we want to do and what we think will be best for our users. If we started writing it today, I have to say, Yii wouldn't be my first pick.

Yii 2 has lots of potential though. It will be interesting how it develops.
