It handles templates, mods, languages. While I agree with what you're saying not all frameworks are huge and have tones of over head. I mean just look at some CSS/JS frameworks for example. Like bootstrap is huge (overkill imo for a framework) but amazium imo provides enough to be a great tool while not basically designing the site for you.

I understand that MyBB already does that, but using a third party framework for your code base? From what I hear, things can get a little... Messy.

But, regarding your thoughts on CSS/JS frameworks, while most CSS frameworks are completely unecessary, I do agree that JS libraries/frameworks are good for expediting things. Most CSS frameworks are just a means to be lazy...

Ultimately, in my opinion, all frameworks, libraries, bootstraps, grids, etc. are killing education. People are learning these easier ways to do things, but they aren't learning the base code that creates them... Which is why we have field flooded with people that call themselves designers and front-end developers... When they haven't read a specification in their life. But I do respect your opinion. Smile

I'm right behind you on this. Too many people rely on frameworks etc. and don't know what they are programming. It also leads to 'bloatware', scripts/programmes that are way bigger than they need to be as they now include all the libraries etc. that are just not needed. When I started programming I had a Commodore Vic20 with 3.5k ram (yes, I'm old!!). I learned to write 'tight' code - I had to. Now with huge memory and harddrive sizes programers have become so lazy Sad
Wait, so MyBB 2.0 won't be using Yii anymore?!?! I've been trying to learn it for the past couple of months to try to get ahead of the game for when 2.0 comes out!

Uggghhh!

The important thing is learning the concept of MVC. We'll be using what we feel is suitable for the project.

While it's good to learn, remember that 2.0 is likely 2 years away aswell. You have tonnes of time eh?

No, 2.0 isn't released. You won't see a release until after 1.8 has been released.
