Why does 1.8 need to meet an ETA?

Because it has been a long time since it was first announced and a drive is needed to keep work up and stop people slacking on the job. The MyBB Group and the MyBB Community both want 1.8 to be stable and released in a realistic timeframe, having an ETA means that we can set ourselves a timeframe in which we want certain features to be implemented and tested. Without an ETA 1.8 could be released even farther into the future (which is something nobody wants)...
