Oh, and yes, hard coded stuff gets really annoying.
I like it a lot - the "Pages"text seems to intrude - I know it is there to tell what the numbers mean, but it seems to jolt somehow :/. I cant explain it as I am not a designer, but just like on the top of the display you don't have pages as it should be clear what the numbers are to a user, maybe try that in the thread_bit.
Let's try something else ...

Makes sense to me that the pagination would be near the thread link for usability. Never occurred to me before.

That I like - it looks more consistent. Maybe - just to keep the colors balanced - add the thread link to the "started" so it is red too. Not sure on that - I think you can't just color it red if it isn't a link (gotta be consistent with visual clues) and it is not really needed as the threadlink already does that.
Or maybe just have starter. Its the two words in black somehow...
