So I thought it could be fun to have a place to just dump random questions, comments, images relating to our MyBB projects. So if you're wondering why you're not getting members, or working on a new theme and want to share it, here's a good place to dump it without spamming new threads everywhere Smile

For myself, I'm working on V4 of Harajuju, which isn't so much of an overhaul as V3 as it is a refinement of the existing concepts. Improving styling slightly, reducing the use of images in the interface, etc.

First on the chopping block is Haralooks. Here's what is currently:

And here's where it's headed.

I'm slowly working on a conversation system plugin. It's a side project right now as I have a few other things to focus on (including a custom plugin).

Is this the PM replacement you were talking about? Happy to hear that you're actually doing it. Between that and MyAlerts, I feel like I'm gonna owe you something Toungue
Yeah. It'll pretty much be a drop-in replacement with users required to disable PMs if they just want to use conversations.
You should include an option to disable all user's PM systems and replace it with your plugin, I think. having two messaging systems would be VERY confusing.
That's the plan Wink I think there's a global switch in the settings to disable PMs anyway so I'll just set that when the plugin is activated.
Great man. Do you have an ETA on both that and MyAlerts? Is this looking like a 1.8 thing?

What I'm curious about is – if this is actually doable, why just not do it in 1.8?

Just fixed an interface bug that's been plaguing the site forever. Feel stupid.

Said the same thing.

MyAlerts is gold and available on the mods site right now (though the github version is always more up-to-date). Several BBOs are already using it too (including Anxiety/Crayo.

Conversation PMs shouldn't actually be that difficult. I just need to get the time to do it and I'm rather busy right now. I'd therefore rather not try to pin a specific date on it.

It is perfectly do-able. 1.8 isn't meant to be such a massive feature update though. It was originally just going to be a refresh with a new theme and jQuery as the JavaScript library. It's already outgrown it's original plan. Take it up with the devs basically Wink

2.0 is what, a 2013 release? 2014 maybe? 1.8 is already behind, for sure, but this is one of the most critical improvements that could be made to give the software some longevity. Most of MyBB's problems are design problems, not feature problems.

Threaded PMing is a 2010 feature. The fact that we're looking at 2 more years without it – and stranding people who are unable to upgrade to 2.0 immediately due to custom work – is pretty shocking.

As long as 1.8 is going to be released at all, it should be as complete as possible. That's my opinion.
